SESSION 8: How Can You Deal with Controversy?

Explain Part A: The Cornerstone of Biology

Despite evolution's potential for controversy, it remains an essential element of any biology course. As Theodosius Dobzhansky said in his 1973 article of the same name, in American Biology Teacher, "Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution."

Based on this article and on your work thus far in the course, think about why evolution is considered the cornerstone of biology. Then make a concept map that links evolution to the various aspects of biology.

Refer to SESSION 1 for information on working with concept maps.
