Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve, Big Sur Coastline
Monterey Co., CA – January 18, 2003

Big Creek's coast (Quercus agrifolia) and canyon (Q. chrysolepis) live oaks are still free of a deadly "Sudden Oak Death" pathogen know to be present only 10 miles north of Big Creek. Further north in Santa Cruz, many of the oaks have died within the last decade. This makes the oak forests at Big Creek especially valuable. For more information on this oak disease see here or here).
