This snail is not in our book. It is not very close to the compared species here. It is Pteropurpura trialata (three-winged murex), a snail that especially feeds on Thylacodes squamigerus (scaled wormsnail)

The endangered species, Haliotis cracherodii (black abalone) is rare on the mainland of southern California since the devastating withering syndrome disease swept through the area around 1996 and impacted especially this species. - See here.
image
More recently, Sea Star Wasting Syndrome has impacted particular sea star species on the entire west coast of North America. This Pisaster ochraceus was the only one we saw that was clearly affected by this disease. See here.
