Panamic cushion star (Pentaceraster cumingi) has been reported between the Gulf of California, northern Peru, the Galapagos Islands, Hawaii, and the SW Caribbean. However, sequences are only available for one Hawaiian specimen, with 16S and 12S rDNA mitochondrial sequences (from Mah and Foltz, 2011).

Tan sea star (Phataria unifascialis) is also found between the Gulf of California and northern Peru, and to the Galapagos Islands. There are no sequences for it in GenBank.

Pyramid sea star (Pharia pyramidata) has a similar distribution to Phataria unifascialis, and like it is in the family Ophidiasteridae (also with Linckia). There are sequences (16S, 12S, H3) for a single specimen from Isla de Malpelo, Colombia (again from Mah and Foltz, 2011).

In Temkin's (2010) phylogenetic study of pearl oysters, A Panamic pearl oyster (Pinctada mazatlanica) from Sonora was supported to be sister taxon of a specimen identified as Pinctata margaritifera, from Florida, and outside this grouping was a Japanese P. margaritifera. (Source: Tempin, 2010).
