SESSION 7: How Can You Use Active Learning to Teach Evolution?

Explain Part B: Building on Prior Knowledge

Ms. Havlik and Ms. Chen organized their lessons to build on students' prior knowledge. Watch the Evolution Case Study video segment "Havlik: Sickle Cell" as her students make the connection between sickle cell anemia and malaria. Also watch the Evolution Case Study video segment "Coding Beak Mutations," in which Ms. Chen's students use what they learned about mutations prior to class to code mutation for offspring's beaks.
