The dog whelk, Nucella ostrina (Gould, 1852) (formerly N. emarginata; see Marko, Palmer, and Vermeij, Veliger 46: 77-85, 2003), view of the aperture, siphon (near thumb), and operculum (yellow/brown). The small limpet on its shell is likely Lottia paradigitalis (Fritchman, 1960) (see Simison and Lindberg, Veliger 46: 1-19, 2003). See also here for top view.
