Introduction

The Western Society of Malacologists (WSM) was born in 1948, as the Pacific Division of the American Malacological Union (AMU), now American Malacological Society (AMS). The WSM was established in 1968 as an independent society for the furtherance of research in Malacology. The membership consists of professionals, amateurs, and students. The WSM holds an annual meeting each year.

The 2008 WSM conference of will take place at the U.S. Geological Survey, 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, California (map), June 5-8. The USGS is centrally located about half way between San Francisco and San Jose on the San Francisco Peninsula. Its warm Mediterranean climate, friendly atmosphere, and accessibility will make for an enjoyable meeting.

The WSM encourages established scientists, students, and amateurs interested in malacology to attend the WSM conference and at the same time to enjoy the hospitality and culture of the local area before or after the event.  A half-day field trip to the prolifically fossiliferous sea cliffs at Capitola will conclude the meeting on Sunday.

Call for Papers

The Western Society of Malacologists will hold its 41st annual meeting in Menlo Park, California from June 5-8, 2008.  The venue will be the U.S. Geological Survey complex at 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park.  The conference will begin Wednesday morning with registration and viewing of submitted posters.  Talks will start in the afternoon and continue through Saturday.
