...to the Desert Studies Center, a field station of the California State University (CSU) located among a haven of natural ponds, dry lakes, and foothills in the Mojave Desert east of Barstow. DSC is located within the Mojave National Preserve. DSC provides the opportunity for individuals and groups to conduct research, receive instruction, and experience the desert environment.

To learn more about The Desert Studies Center and the east Mojave Desert, enjoy a video tour of the of the area AND/OR Climate change research in the Mojave both requiring QuickTime.

The content, design, and updates of our site is made and maintained by the Desert Studies Center, and individuals who are friends of DSC that share an enthusiam for the education and enjoyment of the Mojave Desert habitat.

Desert Symposium—2010 is coming!

Take a look at our extended education courses offered through the University of California, Riverside Extension. Online at www.extension.ucr.edu or by calling 951-827-4105 Course Fees: $325. The course fee includes two nights' lodging at the Center, a snack Friday evening and five meals beginning with breakfast on Saturday.

The 24nd annual DESERT SYMPOSIUM will be held at California State University's Desert Studies Center at Zzyzx, April 23-26, 2010. The symposium features current research on archaeology, anthropology, paleontology, geology, ecology, biological sciences, and environmental issues. Abstracts of the proceedings and a field trip guide will be published.
