Could FI vaccines elicit neutralization of a related laboratory-adapted isolate of HIV, the T cell line-adapted derivative of 168P, 168C?

Neutralization sensitivity of the 168P PI virus and its TCLA derivative 168C were tested in U87-CD4-CXCR4 cells with pooled sera: FC immunogen (black squares), FI immunogens (COS-env + U87 cells, gray circles; COS-env + U87-CD4 cells, gray diamonds; COS-env + sCD4, white diamonds), and mock-transfected cell controls (white circles).

Interpretation of these results:

Were neutralization titers of the TCLA 168C virus comparable between FC and FI vaccine sera ?

Remember this was also true for the titers of antibodies to gp120 ( anti-gp120).

What does this suggest?

Check for understanding.

If the FC vaccines elicited PI virus neutralization where the FI vaccines failed, what does this suggest?
