Shaw's Cove Image

The file limpet (Lottia limatula) can be identified by its black tentacles and side of foot, or by the file-like imbrications on the radiating riblets on the its shell (felt by running a fingernail from the shell margin to the apex). It is one of the most common limpets in southern California.
