During the Fall 1997 semester, the class took field trips once a week to study several marine habitats including: rocky intertidal, estuarine, coastal epipelagic, and midwater. Some of the places we visited were: Newport Back Bay, Laguna Beach intertidal areas, Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Stephen Birch Aquarium, Catalina Island, and boat trips aboard the Yellowfin.
Throughout the semester, each student was responsible for researching a particular group of intertidal organisms. Information from these projects can be found using the links on the left.
Below is a zonation map of a typical rocky intertidal community in southern California.

Contributing students (in no particular order): Tessa Cornish, David Huang, Amber Mills, Nancy Pham, Danielle Wieland, Andrea Jones, Jen Dodge, Pete Donato, Naomi Verlarde, Geoff Greene, Matt Russo, Tony King, and Shivani Kumar,
